How to Make Your Laptop Faster

How to Make Your Laptop Faster

To overcome the performance of computers/laptops that are getting slower, do some of the things below to help speed up the performance of your computer/laptop.

1. Enlarge the RAM and hard disk capacity

The multitasking process is too heavy, causing the performance of a computer/laptop to slow down. Adding more RAM capacity is the best option to accelerate the performance of a computer.

Also note your hard disk capacity. If it's almost full (e.g. 10GB left), it's no wonder your computer/laptop is slowing down. I suggest you enlarge the hard drive capacity and if you have more funds, it does not hurt to buy an SSD to improve the performance of your computer/laptop.

2. Delete temporary files (trash) on Recycle Bin

Temporary (trash) files can slow down the performance of a computer/laptop, so it's best if you delete them. First check the file, if it really is not needed, please delete it by right click  "Recycle Bin" icon. Then select  "Empty Recycle Bin".

Alternative software that you can use is CCleaner, it can also delete temporary files contained in the browser.

3. Uninstall Unnecessary programs

To install a program that is not used. Unfortunately, if you install a program that only removes your hard disk space.

To uninstall the program, you can do it through the Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a program, then uninstall programs that are not used/important.

4. Minimize programs running on Startup

More and more programs that run at startup become one of the factors that cause the performance of a computer to decline. I recommend you to disable any program that really does not matter and do not need to run on startup by pressing the Win + R > Type msconfig > Select the Startup tab then uncheck the program you want to disable.

To make it easier, you can also use CCleaner to disable programs that run at startup.

5. Don't forget to install Antivirus

Make sure you have antivirus installed. As we know that the average virus including malware and spyware causes the performance of a computer to be slow and can also corrupt our data/files. In addition, you have to install the right antivirus, not an antivirus that slows down the performance of your computer/laptop.

6. Custom Virtual Memory

Although its role is not as RAM, this virtual memory can help improve the performance of your computer. To set how much virtual memory you use, go to Control Panel > System and Security > System or can by pressing the Windows key + Pause/Break. Then select Advanced System Settings.

Move to the tab  "Advanced ", then select  "Settings " in the menu  "Performance ".

Move again to the tab  "Advanced ", then select  "Change " in the menu  "Virtual memory ".

Uncheck  "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives ". Then select  "Custom size " and specify how much virtual memory you want. For maximum size you can fill 2X Initial size. After that select  "Set ", then select  "OK ".

Note: For maximum size should not be 2X initial size, it is only approximate.

7. Minimizing the use of visual effects

The more visual effects you use, the better your desktop looks. And what you need to underline, the slower the performance of your computer when there are many visual effects running.

For that you have to minimize the use of visual effects on your desktop in the following way:

Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System, then select the Advanced system settings located in the upper-left corner of the System window.

Move to the Advanced tab, then select Settings on the Performance menu.

On the Visual Effect tab, please select Custom and uncheck visual effects that are not required. You can see the visual effects settings I used in the following image. If there is a visual effect that usually appears, but does not appear, please restore it to default.
  • Choose Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer, when you want your own windows that determines what visual effects are best for your computer.
  • Choose Adjust for best appearance, when you want your desktop to be in the most excellent view. But the impact of going make Kesel, the computer becomes slower.
  • Choose Adjust for best performance, when you want your computer in the best performance. But be ready, your eyes are ' tormented ', because your desktop will look ugly. But this option is suitable for gaming.

8. Use Disk Cleanup

This Tool is useful for deleting temporary files on each of your drives. So you can choose which drive you want to clean from temporary files. To use this tool, please right click the drive you want to clean > Select Properties then select Disk Cleanup.

9. Use Disk Defragmenter

The fragmentation of the data makes your drive work harder, of course it makes the computer performance down. Therefore, you are advised to use Disk Defragmenter to reorder the fragmented data.

You can use this tool by right-clicking the drive you want to defrag > Select Properties > then select Defragment now on the Tools tab.

10. Remove unnecessary gadgets on desktop

Devices installed on desktop become one of the things that affect the performance of a computer. I suggest you remove a gadget that is really unimportant, but if your computer has a high spec may install gadgets like this does not feel the effect on computer performance.
